- WELCOME TO DOS PRACTICE
-
- DOS PRACTICE helps you learn DOS the easy way: with hands-on
- practice. It presents programmed exercises in a controlled environment;
- you don't have to worry about damaging files or causing havoc with your
- PC. Interactive sessions can be tailored for general practice or to
- cover specific topics, and the level of difficulty is selectable, from
- novice to expert. HELP screens explain DOS PRACTICE operation and the
- use of all DOS commands. A record of progress is kept for each user.
- DOS PRACTICE provides a painless way to sharpen your PC skills,
- and complements tutorials, written courses, books, and classes.
-
-
- * Program Requirements:
-
- IBM Personal Computer or Compatible
- Hard Disk
- 256KB Ram
- MS-DOS or PC-DOS Version 2.0 or later
-
-
- * Installation Procedure:
-
- To install DOS PRACTICE on your hard disk, insert the DOS PRACTICE
- diskette into drive A. Move to drive A (type A:<Enter>) and type:
-
- install<Enter>
-
- Drive B may be substituted for drive A. This procedure creates
- directory PRACTICE on drive C, and loads all of the DOS PRACTICE
- files into that directory. If you wish to install it on a different
- drive or directory, make sure the desired destination directory
- exists, then move to drive A and type:
-
- COPY UNZIPDP.EXE <destination><Enter>
-
- Then move to the destination directory and type
-
- UNZIPDP<Enter>
-
- For example, if the diskette is in drive A: and the destination
- directory is to be D:\DP, you would type:
-
- A:<Enter>
- COPY UNZIPDP.EXE D:\DP<Enter>
- D:<Enter>
- CD\DP<Enter>
- UNZIPDP<Enter>
-
-
- * Using DOS PRACTICE:
-
- To use DOS PRACTICE once it has been installed on your hard disk,
- begin by moving to the disk and directory containing the DOS PRACTICE
- files. Then type:
-
- DP<Enter>
-
- DOS PRACTICE should then begin execution. Interaction with the program
- is mostly self-explanatory, but context-dependent help may be called
- up at any time by pressing the F10 function key.
-
- The OVERVIEW selection of the first level menu explains the organi-
- zation and use of DOS PRACTICE. It also reveals some handy features,
- such as how to eliminate any uninteresting exercises from your
- practice sessions.
-
-
- * Display Problems:
-
- On some monochrome monitors the DOS PRACTICE text
- screens are not displayed clearly using the standard
- display control file. If you encounter this problem,
- execute the following command:
-
- COPY B&W.OVL KEYDB.OVL
-
- That should correct the problem. If, at a later date,
- you wish to switch back to full support for a color
- monitor, enter the command:
-
- COPY COLOR.OVL KEYBD.OVL
-
